Theresa Caputo licks her lips, clicks her French-manicured acrylic nails, and takes a deep breath of the afterlife. In a flash, your dead grandma, holding a bouquet of roses, appears to her. Your other dead grandma is there with a white dove. These, Caputo insists, are symbols she receives and interprets from the spirit world.
Since the age of 4, Caputo claims, dead beings have flooded her psyche with greetings from the great hereafter. After suffering a near nervous breakdown, Caputo capitalized on the phenomenon. Now, the “Long Island Medium” is a household name, and Caputo’s visions have made more housewives weep than a significant death on General Hospital. She has almost a million fans on Facebook, a hit reality show on TLC, and a three-year waiting list for a reading, so if you want a chance to meet her, your best bet is at one of her live experiences.
This Saturday at the James L. Knight Center (400 SE Second Ave., Miami), the charismatic Caputo will read audience members, hand-deliver messages from their departed loved ones, and maybe offer a hug and a Kleenex when they cry their eyes out.
