Much like sex, the Internet is a microcosm of human emotion. There are those who seek unity and connection, and those who’d like to nurture lonely wounds in a vacuous space of anonymity. Consider myfirsttime.com, where since 1998 more than 40,000 people have uploaded memories of their initial angst-ridden, sweetly romantic, or criminally disturbing sexual encounters. My First Time the play seeks to bring that interactive virtual world onto the stage while maintaining the mix of voyeurism and anonymity that has made the website so appealing. Audience members are asked to fill out an anonymous questionnaire about their first time, and responses are posted on a screen in the background as actors recount real-life tales that range from the funny and sexy to the disturbing and drunken.
Still not convinced you need to see My First Time? In a questionably accurate website poll, 100 percent of responders reported hitting the sheets immediately afterward. That might make it the most scientifically proven perfect date-night choice of all time. Get lucky this Saturday at 8 p.m. at Area Stage Company. Tickets cost $10 to $35.
