During a butterfly’s life, it transforms from squiggly-squirmy larva to fuzzy caterpillar to everybody’s preferred state — majestic, winged marvel. When they’re full-grown, their beauty is apparent. During the larva period, not so much. That’s probably why the folks at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden are celebrating Butterfly Days and not Larva Days.
“We’re trying to educate people a little bit and let them have some fun with butterflies,” says Paula Fernandez de los Muros, public relations rep for Fairchild. “We’re letting people know how they can have their own butterfly garden and how to identify the butterflies by their markings.” Today and tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., you and the little ones can brush up on your butterfly appreciation skills and then buy a plant that will have the winged beauties flocking to your garden.
