If blue-chip, edgy modern and contemporary Latin American art stroke your noodle, then boy does arteamericas deliver the money shot for you. Since it hung its shingle five years ago, this event has grown to become the marquee attraction for Latin American art, showcasing 50 of the top ranked galleries from sixteen countries in the Americas and Europe last year. This year’s installment of the increasingly popular fair has expanded to include 70 galleries representing over 300 creative heavyweights, and a pack of emerging contenders exhibiting their paintings, sculptures, photographs, installations, and videos.
Headliners include Venezuela’s Spativm and Costa Rica’s Jacob Karpio Galeria. Mexico City’s Nina Menocal Gallery is weighing in with Rodolfo Peraza’s quirky traffic-sign pieces, while Chile’s Animal space will show Patrick Hamilton’s skull-crushing florescent landscape works. Plenty of homegrown talent will be on display in the fair’s booming roster, with Ambrosino Gallery, Alejandra Von Hartz Fine Arts, DPM Arte Contemporaneo, Diana Lowenstein Fine Art, and Hardcore Contemporary Art Space among the South Florida galleries shopping their wares.
