What do you get when you put together eight metropolitan cities in one room? Lots body heat and other assorted unpleasantries, I’m sure. But if they’re eight screens of metropolitan cities instead, things get less crowded. Kimsooja: A Needle Woman depicts cities like Mexico City, Cairo, New York, and Dheli with a lone woman in grey clothing standing in the middle of a bustling crowd. Perhaps Kimsooja’s goal is to visually describe the difficulty of preserving one’s own uniqueness and solidarity in a sea of frantic movement and uncertainty. Or maybe she just had tons of frequent flier miles and had nothing else to do with her camera. Either way, it’s an exhibit worth the visit.
