Take a stroll and illuminate the night with gold, red, and white. For this evening’s Light the Night walk, the South Florida chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society chose these colors to highlight supporters, patients, and the memory of those who lost their lives to cancer. It’s an effortless and enjoyable way to support the cause. The fundraising walk is hardly a marathon; it’s a casual two-mile stroll from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Supporters will receive red blinking balloons, survivors and patients will carry white ones, and those strolling in memory of loved ones will hold gold balloons.

This year the family-friendly event will culminate at Bayfront Park with live music, food, face painting, and rock climbing. Visitors can also enjoy a ride on Imagination, the park’s new hot-air balloon, which lifts passengers to skyscraper level for an inspiring view of the sprawling city. Proceeds from each ride will go toward fundraising and research to find a cure. This evening’s event is one of the society’s three awareness-raising campaigns presented throughout the year. Additional Light the Night walks will take place October 6 in Fort Lauderdale’s Huizenga Park and October 20 at Memorial Hospital Miramar. Admission is free, but participants are encouraged to recruit family, friends, and co-workers to come out and show their glowing support as well.
