Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You

We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

$10,000

Some of Peachfuzz’s perks include free entry, sweaty bodies, Pres Rodriguez-designed flyers featuring a different ’90s hip-hop vixen each week, and Raul Sanchez’s huge Yo! MTV Raps video collection. Isn’t that enough to entice you to attend the newish weekly night at the Garret?

Peachfuzz started only about a month and a half ago, and already it’s one of Miami’s most popular downtown dance parties. “One of the things about the Garret is that it doesn’t feel like you’re in Miami. It feels like a warehouse in New York, Philly, or San Francisco,” Sanchez says.

Another Peachfuzz perk is DJ DZA (Adrian Douzmanian), who’s been the resident DJ at Purdy Lounge’s Chocolate Sundays for about three years. “Adrian is a an amazing DJ,” Sanchez gushes. “And to think, he’s only 21 years old! I have never met someone at that age who knows more about music.”

Good music and good times are the Peachfuzz agenda. “We wanted to have everyone dancing. It’s a fun and diverse crowd that will dance to obscure hip-hop, disco/boogie, ’90s house, as well A$AP Rocky and Waka Flocka.”

Also, Sanchez suggests getting there early. Last week, the Garret reached capacity quickly, and all of the tardy partiers were left waiting on the sidewalk. Besides, if you get there between 11 p.m. and midnight, there’s free Grolsch!

This party sounds like it’s all perks.
