There is an underground community of local musicians that is experimenting to create a new form of music. The mission: to blend the music of the Magic City — Latin, reggae, hip-hop, rock, folk, and electronica — into a distinct sound called “Miami Fusion.” These artists usually congregate at open-mike events, where they collaborate on impromptu music projects. The duo Rabbit in a Hat is an example of this phenomenon.
The two members, Juan “Nacho” Londono and Johann Murillo, met at an open mike. They immediately began improvising. As their voices, guitar, and synthesizer blended, something clicked. The pair spent the next three days writing songs and composing. A variety of new music emerged. Local music lovers can hear their unique melodies, laced with xylophone, guitar, and harmonica, tonight at their CD-release party at Circa 28. Doors open at 8:00.
