Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
You might have heard that many of the foods we eat are overprocessed, coated in chemicals, and downright toxic. And you also might have heard there is a supersmart subculture of folks who are not accepting the crap that society is trying to force down their throats. They’re saying no to the commercials touting ooey-gooey, melty-cheesy, yummy-looking foods, and they damn sure aren’t accepting the rumors that the term organic is just another clever marketing ploy. Two members of the healthy-eating team, Jayne and Howard Rosenbaum, founded the Organic Produce Buying Club of South Florida, a co-op made up of people who want to live and eat organically while supporting local farmers.
“Besides being healthy, you’re also finding better-tasting food. It’s better quality and it’s better for you. Hormones and other dubious things that can be found in other processed products can really make it a danger to not eat organically,” says Howard. Today you can test-drive the organic wagon at the second annual Bountiful Harvest Celebration, a delicious and free eating and educational experience that will have you and the whole family logging on to www.organicbuyingclubsofla.com to join the club. The healthy fun takes place from noon to sunset at Oleta River State Park.
