Winter Music Conference blows into town tomorrow. It’s going to tantalize you with a flurry of sights and sounds (and drugs) and then leave you shaking in the gutter fiending for more. We’re totally looking forward to that feeling, but you might be into something with a bit more longevity. Like Murk’d, a party that will love you tonight and every Thursday to come.

“We’re trying to do something different because Miami doesn’t have a really good hip-hop party. On the whole South Beach scene, they play little jiggy rap that you hear on the radio, but that’s it,” says Javier Ordonez, one of the organizers. He promises three-dollar tequila shots, a video installation from YouTube celeb Flipper, and DJ sets where Madame Turk and DJ Icue show off their turntable skills instead of the iPod-skip-button punch. Sure, Nas said hip-hop is dead, but from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. at PS 14, you’ll realize it didn’t get totally murk’d out.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $16,750 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
