The scheme: Dress up a Mexican cooking class as a manly man’s preparation for the “football feeding frenzy” that is the Big Game. The result: the Real Men Cook Mexican Demonstration and Luncheon at Rosa Mexicano . The event is planned to be the official guide to a Mexican Super Bowl party, where participants of all genders can learn to concoct plates such as Rosa’s take on “pigskin” — pedazos de chicharrón, crisp seasoned pork rinds with a spicy black bean salsa — and tailgater showoff items such as camarones rebosados, jumbo Mexican shrimp wrapped in bacon.
Women pay $35 to enter. Men, undoubtedly dragged there by significant others, get in free, but just might come out knowing how to whip up some killer Mexican food, or at least how to indulge in menu specials from $15 to $35. The class begins at 10 a.m., and the luncheon starts at 11:30. Reservations are necessary, so call 786-425-1001.

Will you step up to support New Times this year?
At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
