When “Miami” and “art” are mentioned in the same utterance, it’s typically a reference to yet another massive Britto pimple oozing into the public’s line of sight. But the Big Orange is also gaining a reputation as a portal for emerging artists throughout the Americas. This Friday Floyd and Gaby Guimary, two of Miami’s innovators of avant-garde art, will show how they are breaking the mold, at an exhibit called “True Colors.”

Floyd has made a name for himself in the art and music scenes through Motion Art — whose shows bridge the gap between live music and painting — performing onstage with various rock bands and channeling the music to create vibrant, original paintings. The exhibit will also feature abstract acrylic-on-canvas works by Gaby Guimary, host of MegaTV’s popular show Puerta Astral and a visual artist in her own right.

Fri., May 8, 7:30 p.m., 2009
