French DJ Caroline “Miss Kittin” Herve gained notoriety in the late Nineties/early Aughts for her droll, stilted delivery on swaggering collaborations with Swiss producer the Hacker and electroclash-associated DJs such as Felix Da Housecat. Her cocaine catcalls and limousine fuck-fests captured an urban Zeitgeist that was exhilarating, if not exactly sustainable. And while electroclash has gone from the haute scene to not seen, Kittin is still making speakers purr. On mix CDs and her own production albums, Kittin casts tracks with synth-pop sheen and a virulent bombast that bridges warm melody and industrial twitch. For her DJ sets she spins everything from chipped and clipped tech-house to button-down bleeps and blips, raunchy and ramping ghetto tech, steely and strutting Baltimore club, jacking Chicago house, and undulating acid. Whatever kind of body beats you prefer in the limo following the set is nobody’s business but your own.
