And though you might know him only from his work in the instant classic Cidade de Deus (City of God) and Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (his versions of Bowie hits were so good even Bowie made it public knowledge), you should really know him for his breakout album, Cru. Jorge’s true appeal comes from the genuineness of his music, a blend of personal passions including funk, rap, jongo, reggae, and bossa nova, as well as a deep understanding of samba. With a devilishly disarming smile and a stare wise beyond his thirty-odd years, Jorge soldiers on in a proud musical tradition.
