This Miami-based outfit composed of three international talents is a mélange of Spanish rock, pop, and salsa influences. The lyrics have soul; the music has flavor. Erick Bolívar, who began his career as a child singer on Venezuelan television and has written salsa songs for many artists, is the voice and rhythm of Locoyó. Percussionist Joel Enriquez, who hails from Cuba, lists pop among his influences. Julio Perez, also Cuban, plays guitar and finds inspiration in Eighties rockers Van Halen. “The music is free, sarcastic, romantic, exciting, happy, and eclectic; that is Locoyó,” says Enriquez. With this performance, the band celebrates the recent release of its first independently produced album, Superstar.
