Denmark’s prolific electronic experimentalist (and much-lauded remixer) Anders Trentemøller hand-picked his best tracks and remixes for this two-disc set, which follows his 2006 studio debut, The Last Resort. Fans of that album’s dubby down-tempo and gorgeous clicking techno would hope for a collection of similar new compositions. Instead The Trentemøller Chronicles compiles bright moments new and old, and for the casual enthusiast, it hardly disappoints.
The first disc, mixed DJ-style, features new cuts along with Last Resort selections and even older tracks. The fresh “Blood in the Streets” is fitted with eerie vocal mutterings and e-bowed guitar licks, and here appears slipped against the tail end of Last Resort‘s glitchy “Snowflake (Live Version).” Eleven remixes populate a powerful unmixed second disc. Although Trentemøller’s can’t-miss rendition of the Knife’s “We Share Our Mother’s Health” is battered with more pitch-shifting and brittle beats, a brand-new LP would sit even better.
