Oh shit, here’s one of the guys who nearly turned turntablism, that ill-fated Nineties fad, into a full-fledged musical genre. Canadian DJ Eric “Kid Koala” San doesn’t so much cut-and-spin records as he scratches them into funny, whimsical, and melancholy compositions, whether it’s his interpolation of Charlie Brown’s “I got a rock” on the classic Scratchratchatch mixtape, the aptly named “Static’s Waltz,” or his masterful concept albums Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Some of My Best Friends Are DJs. For all of you ancient rockists who think DJs aren’t musicians, Kid Koala provides substantial proof otherwise. Warming up the crowd will be Karakter of Los Four Amigos. Kid Koala performs at 11:00 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the District, 35 NE 40th St, Miami. Tickets cost $10. Call 305-576-7242.
