It’s time for all you late-night hot-bodies to give some love to the new guy, Patrick M, the Argentine DJ who has taken Miami as his home and the Sunday a.m. terrace gig at Space as one of his vocations. This Sunday finds Patrick releasing his new track, “Hulk,” a collaboration with DJ Wady. “[Wady] is a longtime friend and a very talented producer,” Patrick says. “The song made a lot of buzz during WMC, and it’s being released officially on CR2 Records, a UK-based label. I’m really excited about this project and some of the remixes that will be released with it.” “Hulk” is right in line with his core sound, which he describes as “a bit of tech, a dash of progressive, a twist of funk.”

Along with his weekly red-eye residency at Space, Patrick also boasts monthly slots at Park West downtown and Cameo on South Beach. The Space shows are a guilty pleasure for him, featuring the music he listens to at home. “I’m very fortunate to have this creative freedom at Space. I tend to steer clear of the very commercial stuff and try to keep it fresh and more cutting-edge.”

There have been growing pains, of course, as Patrick has adjusted to the task. “Not too long ago, Roger Sanchez was the guest DJ at Space and I was playing the opening set,” he recalls. “During Roger’s set, I started to get really hungry but couldn’t leave because I also had to play the closing set after Roger was finished, which was very soon. I was hanging out in the DJ booth and stumbled across a very lonely, perfectly wrapped chicken sandwich. At this point I was so hungry, and I had to play in a few minutes, so it was now or never.

“Roger finished his set and was packing up his headphones and CDs while curiously looking around for something, but couldn’t seem to find it. I didn’t say anything and felt guilty when I realized it must have been his. He didn’t say anything either, so I wiped the mayo off my face and continued to rock the terrace for a few more hours. Sorry, Roger!”
