Must-See Movies at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival

The Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is screening some truly standout films this year. Fortunately for you, most of them are playing this weekend.

Mosquita y Mari: Two 15-year-old Chicanas are on different paths. One is a serious student preparing for college; the other is mired in the everyday hustle of helping support her undocumented family. The girls develop a physical relationship despite their differences. 7 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Coral Gables Art Cinema. Tickets cost $11.

Elliot Loves: Dominican-American Elliot Ayende is revealed as both a 9-year-old boy with a “barely keeping-it-together single mom” and a 21-year-old looking for love in the Big Apple. 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, at Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Dr., Miami Beach. Tickets cost $15.

This Is What Love in Action Looks Like: This documentary tells the story of a 16-year-old who used social media to inform the world that his parents had placed him in a program to “cure” his homosexuality.
