The band has been gigging 14 years and never played Miami? Of a Revolution fans, rejoice! The Marlins are bringing the band down for a postgame Super Saturday concert. After the Fish trounce the Padres, Sun Life Stadium will quake in time to booms from exploding colored sparks in a killer fireworks show. Then a sea of beer cups, waving hands, and Marlins rally fists (free to the first 15,000 fans) will rise to greet the warm hum of the stadium's giant speakers as O.A.R. soars into its velvety-smooth brand of contemporary rock.
At Marlins Super Saturday Game time is 7:10 p.m.; band plays after game Saturday, June 26. Sun Life Stadium, 2269 Dan Marino Blvd., Miami Gardens. Tickets start at $14. 305-530-5050; marlins.com
Band saxophonist Jerry DePizzo says, "The people who don't know us, they're gonna be wondering what the hell all these people are doing singing our songs." YouTube confirms the band's mostly college-kid fan base often takes over entire choruses for big sing-alongs to "Crazy Game of Poker," "Shattered," and, more recently, "This Town." But even folks unfamiliar with O.A.R.'s diet-reggae-tinged, Wonder Bread take on Caribbean music will likely enjoy the easy-to-digest music. "Our job is to make people feel good, entertain them, and help them forget about their problems," DePizzo says. "I love baseball. I don't care who's playing; a day at the park is always a good time."
