Parties are always better with surprises. Especially when they boast a lineup of some of the most respected and musically dope DJs on the planet — and it doesn't cost a dollar for admission. Enter the Do-Over, which will take over Bar the afternoon of Sunday, March 28. It's L.A.'s summertime version of a Sunday-afternoon back-yard boogie, where the hazy, tropical Hollywood skyline blends with the homemade sangria, and the identities of the guest selectors aren't announced until they step to the turntables.

Founded nearly five years ago by Stonesthrow's Jamie Strong, DJ Chris Haycock, and vocalist/MC Aloe Blacc, the Do-Over has been called "hands-down the best summer party out there" by New Times' sister paper LA Weekly. And that secretiveness is taken seriously. "We even try to keep the identities of the guest DJs secret from the other DJs; that way no one has any idea what the next DJ is going to play," Strong says.
Some of those mystery men at past editions have included J Rocc, A-Trak, DJ AM (R.I.P.), Theo Parrish, Dam Funk, and Miami's own DJs Craze and Induce. The Do-Over crew also records many of the DJ sets and extensively archives them along with photos on the party's website. The founders have even begun to release a ten-inch record series featuring Do-Over collaborators; the first was a double-sided serving of heat from producers Flying Lotus & House Shoes. Strong, Haycock, and company are still mum on the WMC party bill, but because it's their first effort outside Hollywood, it should be one to remember. Just don't wear a white tee unless you're prepared for a purple sangria stain.
