Let’s just get this out of the way: Heidi absolutely never, ever fails to straight-up kill it on the dance floor. One of the leading lights of the Get Physical stable — home of M.A.N.D.Y., Booka Shade, et al. — she was also the label’s first female signing. This Berlin-by-way-of-Windsor-Ontario DJ might look sweet and blond, but on the decks, she is fierce, locking into a groove that is both machine-like and funky, and purely inescapable. Heavy on fat bass lines and hooks, her style, owing to her place on Get Physical, is usually nominally called “electro-house.” But her sound is rawer than that of many of her label mates; it’s based on a soulful, underground vibe — a reminder for your ass that the word house in house music originally came from warehouse.

When she’s not wooing audiences worldwide at famous clubs such as London’s Fabric or Frankfurt’s Cocoon, she’s giving Annie Mac a run for her money as a host on BBC’s Radio One. Heidi’s show, In New DJs We Trust, features what the title says, with plenty of guest appearances from legends-in-the-making including Damian Lazarus and Claude Von Stroke.
