Their existence was as brief as their uniforms. The Lingerie Football League's Miami Caliente (which was technically the best professional football team in town over the past two years -- it actually made the playoffs) appears to have quietly folded. The Juice reports their website is gone, they don't appear on the league's schedule for next season, and many of their players have moved on to other teams.
Apparently the team couldn't overcome one of the major hurtles facing many teams across South Florida: fan support. Not enough people were buying tickets. Then again, the team played on the far edges of Broward County at the BankAtlantic Center. Why travel all that way when you can see scantily clad women walking around South Beach for free?
The team was rather successful, making the playoffs in its two short seasons. That's more than you can say for the Dolphins. The Caliente also made headlines when two players were suspended for wearing too much attire on the covers of the Miami and Broward-Palm Beach New Times.
The team also memorably took part in an on-the-field brawl against the Tampa Bay Breeze.
