Nocturnal, the other major superclub on NE Eleventh Street, has suffered its ups and downs, surviving through its fare share of closing and re-opening rumors over the years. But that's just par for the course in nightlife, where longevity is rare and a fifth birthday, which the dance warehouse celebrates this weekend, is truly an accomplishment. In a bit of local love, the main soundtrack for the event is 305 hip-hop, courtesy of live performances from Flo Rida and Git Fresh.
Flo is, of course, the hometown guy turned bona fide star, specializing in hip-hop verses over slickly produced dance-pop. If you turned on commercial radio at any point in the last six months, you at least heard his biggest hit to date, "Right Round." A couple months ago, he announced via Twitter that his third studio album, The Only One, is due out later this year. Nocturnal promoters promise this is a live show, not just an "appearance," and that he's scheduled to perform all his hit songs. Opening act Git Fresh, meanwhile, has also scored a little airwave love with songs like "What Them Girls Like," and a recent Flo Rida collab called "Arch Your Back."
Nocturnal Five-Year Anniversary. With Flo Rida and Git Fresh. 11 p.m. Saturday, May 1. Nocturnal, 50 NE 11th St., Miami. Tickets cost $20 for general admission, $300 VIP in advance from wantickets.com. Age 21 and up; 786-991-8939; nocturnalmiami.com
