Wow, I am so disgusted with the comments below. Whilst Mr. Campbell is indeed being an extremist by wanting to expel this radical republican sect, he does make a good point-- these people are intolerant--same thing goes for several of you down there. Intolerance and hate seem to have been the only emotional reaction we have received from the right wing since we (THE MAJORITY OF US CITIZENS) elected a black president. As is dually shown by the onslaught of racial slurs listed proudly below. Palin & Co. have been drumming up support from every frustrated, poor, racist white person in this county and have found their population of uneducated and intolerant US Citizens with ease.
I believe at the root of all this hatred and "take your country back" attitude lies an education system in shambles. Instead of using blacks, muslims, mexicans, or any immigrant population as a scapegoat, I urge you to become educated and introspective. I highly recommend travel and experience as part of this process. Everyone is always worrying about that other guy and what he's doing. I'll tell you what he's doing - while you sit at home and wallow in hate, they are sending their first generation to college. While you make construct your misspelled cardboard signs, they are laughing at your minuscule capacity to understand that outside of Main Street there lies a bigger picture. One that does not restrict nor discriminate and its called the world! When someone says a movement and its followers should be "shut down" -- what is it you take that to mean? Is it paranoid that police and other agencies would be responsible for dismantling it -- with violence if necessary? Because that's what he's advocating... When the state dismantles a "movement" -- because of the alleged connection between idiots or psychopaths and that movement to shut it down and restrict legitimate political speech: I consider it unjust state violence.
Saying that what I'm saying is a load of crap only carries water if you actually cite something I said that isn't factual. You're claiming that the aim of the Tea Party is violent insurrection -- which is ridiculous...
And please read before assuming you understood what was written: I even called Beck and Palin blowhards! But they call none of the Tea Party's core beefs with the Federal Gov't into question. The last Civil War was caused by Secessionists, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck have certainly supported Rick Perry's remarks about seceding as have Rand Paul and Michelle Bachman. Another example of Tea Partiers making things up is when you state that this article advocates the state promoting violence against a large group of people.

If saying that a group of people showing up at a political rally with guns is advocating violence then certainly the tea party is already guilty of that several times over. Is having the National Guard present to stop people from killing each other a way of "advocating state violence"?

Charles and David Koch are the founders of the tea party movement and there are several De Facto leaders (Rand Paul, Michelle Bachman, Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck just to name a few) most Tea Partiers are ignorant of the real agenda of the far right wing that they support and as the officials that they elect destroy education even further the level of ignorance is this country grows. George W. Bush expanded the government more than any other previous president when he created the Department of Homeland Security and hundreds of other agencies which previously did not exist but now all report to DHS.
The republican party (which the tea party is absolutely an offshoot of) talk out of one side of their mouths while campaigning then the other side while in office. The Tea Party favors corporate control of government in the same way that Italy did from the beginning of World War 1 until they were defeated in World War 2. Look up Fascism, Wikipedia.
The people causing the most harm in this country are not the Tea Party leaders, the harm is coming from the people who are easily led by them and do not bother to check the facts before supporting an agenda which has already had 8 years to prove what a failure it is.

I understand when Tea Partiers are described as ordinary people who support lower taxes, smaller government and freedom from the Big Brother, that's fine (I'm not a T.P.) what I don't understand is how a TP from Utah or Colorado can start a recall for someone in Tucson ARIZONA, and movilize T P'ers to remove from office in this case Sheriff Dupnick for his personal comments. Don't T P'ers have anything better to do, like help lowering taxes, etc., This guy from Utah or Colorado should concentrate all his efforts in his state thus, keeping goverment smaller !! At what point did anyone on the right encourage gun violence against their political opponents in a manner not consistent with political rhetoric from both factions? Both political parties tend to let their words get ahead of them, but when even Olbermann can only call the influence of these blowhards (Beck and Palin) "tangential" -- it's hard to see how the responsibility for the crime committed is at all shared. It rests on the shoulders of the person who fired the shots, not your political opponents. That you're allowing yourself to publish such drivel just shows how far hate can take someone...
If there was ever a Civil War, then it would result from precisely the type of government activities you're promoting: squashing political dissent and grouping peaceful Americans -- who in your eyes for their philosophical disagreements with the two ruling parties should be arrested and imprisoned -- in with the maniac from Tucson. The way to get around the majority issue is to keep defunding education (Rand Paul wants to take 83 percent of what's left) republicans constantly cut education spending the benefits to them are twofold: A less educated population is way easier to convince into voting for something that does not benefit them at all, and There is less competition for their own children who have educations but generally only in bible schools (science bad).

Unverified?? I suppose that black people were not being turned away from voting booths in the key state of Florida that Jeb Bush was governor of? I recorded the footage of that if you don't believe it, I had friends there who saw it with their own eyes. They knew the election would be decided by Florida's 25 electoral votes so Jeb pulled off the crime of the century and in that way is almost single handedly responsible for the abortion of an economy that his brother King George left for President Obama to try cleaning up with nothing but roadblocks from the party behind the mess.

Yeah, Obama has had two years now and that should be plenty of time to fix what King George messed up in his eight years. Last time I checked they didn't give a magical fix everything scepter to the guy that wins the election. Bernanke's plan was to shut down the global economy, he came very close to succeeding and Obama has had to fight against the party that was responsible for the last eight years. If you have a problem with what's going on in government you should direct your anger at the people who caused the problem and are putting up roadblocks when someone is trying to fix it.
Obama inherited the worst economy ever and for all of the people who are going to say "he's had it for 2 years why isn't it fixed" I will answer this, the people who caused the mess are not done yet they are fighting progress every day -also- Obama has created more private sector jobs in 2 years (and salvaged the auto-industry) than King George did in 8 years and the Dow Jones that was under 8,000 when Obama took office is now back over 12,000. So when you vote republican in the next election cycle I want you to tattoo that on your right arm so you'll never be able to forget what you did to yourself and your children.

The facts are in print and if you have been in this country as long as you say you have then you have lived it. It amazes me that people with a tainted eye can live through a situation and yet when asked to recall what had happened all they can remember is the propaganda that they've heard from organizations claiming to bring the news. The new Republican party is casting off all of the old guard who cannot conform to their extremist ideals, some of the older ones (McCain and McConnell for Example) have no problem doing a complete reversal from sensibility due to senility, they have been fighting against bills that they authored.
The United States took its biggest step ever towards Dictatorship when the Stevens Supreme Court upheld the Citizens United ruling which simply stated counts Corporations as individuals thereby granting them unlimited power to buy elections in the United States.
When corporations control governments there is no such thing as Social Justice, my grandfather worked in a sawmill when he was 9 years old, at the age of eleven he lost a finger and the company accepted no responsibility. Already the Corporatists are working to erode the laws that protect workers while at the same time campaigning for an end to our rights to collect damages if we are injured due to their negligence. If the corporations are allowed to gain control of congress by buying the political process not only will you have no recourse when injured but you will have no right to medical care. Once Citizens United passed the Republicans went into overdrive. Charlie, you may not want to complain too much about Cuba because in five years you'll probably be trying to find a boat to get back there.

While many tea party people have legitimate complaints, you don't seem to be aware of the Tea Party Express ...and who's behind it. The tea party movement had their voices stolen by Billionaire brothers named Koch (pronounced Coke) and sadly they don't even know it.
That's why there are some power struggles between the established GOP and the Tea Party Caucus. While the GOP has traditionally (ever since Reagan anyway) been pro-corporate because of their lucrative donations, even the established Republicans don't want the Koch's to take over Congress. Daddy Koch made his money working for Stalin and was a founder of the John Birch Society. The sons have some pretty radical views that I doubt even tea party people would agree with.

The Tea Party are anywhere that the Koch brothers want them to be, Funny how a couple of the richest people in America have started a "Grass Roots Movement" of undereducated people by convincing them that the best thing for them will be to die in poverty at an early age because the corporations own them and shouldn't have to pay for their health care.

I don't know how you got an educated person to write that for you, but for you to say that it is the Democrats calling the Republicans 'Nazis' is way off base. Glenn Beck uses the word NAZI an average of 31 times every day to describe Democrats, if he isn't calling them NAZI he's calling them Socialists (the two terms are not compatible).
Even you should be able to recognize that the Republican party favors corporations over humans and that the policies they enact are repressing the American public as a whole.

The writer does not bring up the prophet 'Mohammed', but technically speaking that prophet was just as much off his meds as the freak that did the shooting in Fort Hood. There is a shared responsibility, you can not possibly be so blind as to not see the corollary between the violence preached by Right Wing Radicals like Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, Angle, O'Donnel and Bachman to the violence in Tucson. I found Luke Campbell's article regarding the Tucson shootings was an enlightening insight into the state of the liberal press. The New Times, and other outlets that prided themselves on freedom of speech, and bucking the powers that be, seem to have changed their tune, now that a government of the left is in power. The people comparing Republicans to Nazis and war criminals were lauded and applauded when the Republicans were in power, but now anyone that speaks against the government is deemed to be "extreme militants" that should be silenced. Are you simply a lapdog mouthpiece for the government now? The fact that the shooting had nothing at all to do with those conservative pundits, and that those pundits had never advocated violence, seems to be conveniently forgotten in the heady rush to use this tragedy as a reason to silence all dissent that dares to be voiced against the government. Who are you, New Times, and what do you stand for? Perhaps you should ask those questions, because you can no longer claim the mantel of being a rogue voice that believes in questioning authority anymore.

You are worried about what happen in Tucson, but not with crime in the Black community, a group of people in Liberty City gunned down with a AK47,LIBERTY CITY,IN MIAMI.You worried about some white folk in Arizona? You are so biased. There are plenty of left wingnuts that only know how to call names. Sadly even our President and Pelosi call names. Every journalist who labels people with inappropiate names is no different - left or right winged.
