To start with Tea party people, at least the ones I know we are not other racists like you state.(It is a free country so say what you want, but lies do not cut it)Also I grew up on the wrong side of the track is what I was always told when I was a kid by the so call people that was better off than us, you see we had no Air Condition, only a shade tree or some times if we was lucky we had a fan.Later on till I had a better education to get a better job we raised four sons with out AC most the time because we did not have money to run the AC but we never used this for an excuse to lets our kids run wild at night time.
I do agree with you that the government needs to stay out of our business and not having curfew is not the answer, how about the ones that are trying to better their selfs and get an education at night when they work daytime, or the other way around that have to work at night. They are harassed for no reason when they are caught out. Government needs to get their own balanced budgets right first and other things that are their job right first.(Which they can not seem to do).Quit creating more problems with poor kids and give them a better choice for a better future or things will never get better. The kids of today have enough things they have to overcome, how about some good Christian love and help instead of kicking them all the time and giving them no hope at all..

I think this is a great idea!!! Luke c'mon man this will help reduce crime and helps kids stay at home. However, I honestly think that ultimately the parents are the ones that should be punished. Look at it this way, it's Tuesday night around 11 pm or so and instead of your child being home sleeping getting ready for school the next day, he/she is out god knows where. And all you can come up with is no A/C?!?!?! I'm pretty sure if you went out to Aventura mall or out to Dolphin mall you wouldn't see kids from that area hanging out past 10 PM... Even if they didn't have A/C it comes down to cultural upbringings and parenting. I don't care what anybody says.
Oh and by the way I think this ordinance should be enforced one-hundred percent in all of Miami-Dade County!!! Hialeah, Homestead, Doral, Aventura, Miami Shores, and so forth.
Also DCF is the crappiest child protection services ever!!! That whole org. needs to be gutted. I hope this ordinance severely punishes those parents that continue to allow their kids to cause mayhem in our streets. Everything is all fun and games till someone gets shot... then mommy and aunty and the entire neighborhood are on T.V. crying and screaming, "oh lord... why my baby", well if your child was at home studying or getting a good night's rest then maybe they would have still been alive.

Luke your a piece of turd, you degenerate scum bag. You are a disgrace yet a model to your race. Your thoughts and opinions are those of an animal if they could talk. You are a poster boy for your people, and that says alot about your people.

What planet are you reporting from? If the kid's don't like hot apartments at 10pm, then they should study so in the future they can afford ac. Stop with the give me plea, it is so pitiful.
Studying and Education equal's Change You Can Belive In!

I disagree with you. Children have always had abridged rights. No one is talking about a curfew for adults. Do you let your children do what they want because you want to respect their civil rights? Young people get in serious trouble OVERWHELMINGLY at night. The law is good. There is no reason for a 16-year-old to be roaming the streets in the middle of the street. That child needs to be home, resting, so he or she can do a good job in school the next day.
Dunn does not need to change anything to make children behave. MOTHERS AND FATHERS need to do that.
You are not being helpful. And YOUR community is the most afflicted by violence. Shame on you for posturing and writing nonsense.

Why would you have 3 or 4 kids, if you can't afford air conditioning? Is it my responsibility to pay for poor people's a.c? Work 2 jobs like I did!Once again you blame every one else for the "ghetto problem". You are a spineless fake.

Sir,
I would like to inform you that term racist directed at everyone in the Tea Party is very offending. I may not agree with much that they have to say, but it is their right as Americans to speak. In the spirit of the Memorial Day holiday, and what it represents (Not BBQ’ing, but the honoring of my fallen brother and sisters in arms), understand that when you classify a whole group of people because of beliefs, political or not, then that seems to deem you as the bigot. I do not wish to say that these perceptions are true, nor do I want to address my beliefs. My only intention in writing this comment was to bring the hatred, and division that is facing our country to the forefront. While the finger-pointing that is going on both sides is repulsive at the very least, yours negativity was the most ironic I have heard in a while. Please, if a whole group of people is the subject of your conversation then do not stereotype. I also ask you to not attack others but to influence and provide those who look up to you with a positive direction, instead of being chauvinistic.
Thank you for your time.
Very Respectfully,
William

Luke, this time I think you're a little off bruh. You mean well though look nobody wants to hear it but problems in the black community can only be solved at the root! You cant come together as a people until u come together as a community, and u cant come together as a community until you've come together as a family and therein lies the problem. Uncle Sam is smart enough to divide the family off rip, two kids have a baby, you give the daddy a bill, and give the mama the benefits, place to stay, food stamps welfare check, but daddy not allowed, he's a "dead-beat dad" thats what the govt teaches you, hate him I gotcha, so the parets' vviews of the system differ, to her its not that bad, to him it's a torturous trap! You reward teenage pregnancy, and unplanned parenthood, the more babies they have the more they get on the check, so Ithey have em theres no consequences, I dont have to make my relationship work because the govt gon take care me f him,but by the time the kid grows up, she's spent her entire life waitin on the first, and the kid must go astray, to find alternatives, because mom is unskilled she relied on welfare, now that its gone, she cant do nothin, dad been alienated ever since he went to jail for child support, and they're alienated from the family, the hous itself is torn apart, so the kids become scavengers

Great point Luther. I grew up too poor for air conditioning, and I know how you'd rather stay outside even at night. In 1983 I had a day labour job where I would accompany an FP&L worker when he would go to Overtown to cut the power for customers who were 2 or 3 months behind in their electricity bill. Some apts. had windows nailed shut or boarded windows (due to break-ins), no AC, only fans. Mr Dunn should try living like that for a couple of days before he points fingers.

(The Dunn Joke)
Miami City Commissioner Richard P. Dunn, the ordinance's most-vocal supporter, declared it a rip-roaring success on Thursday, pointing out that few kids have been picked up in his district for crimes or municipal violations since police began enforcing the ordinance a couple of weeks ago.
The rumor mill has it, that rev Dunn has hired high power lobbyist Dewey Knight III, to raise money for his campaign. This is a clear sign that lobbyist are in control of district 5. As you know when lobbyist have the commissioners ears, the people lose.

LETSBFRANK 05/28/2010 11:40:00 PM
To Luke: The reason why this law is not enforced in places like Aventura is because we do not have the problem of youths hanging in our streets up to no good. Not happy that these kids are coming to our mall in an attempt to flee their neighborhoods, because truth be told, these trouble makers make problems wherever they go. And what's wrong with these "children", because that's what they are, being home by a certain time. These politicians are intervening because it's obvious that their parents aren't doing anything to control their children, so it's left up to local law enforcement to do it for them. So what's the solution? Do nothing? Law enforcement recognizes that the root of the problem are the kids who aren't getting any discipline from their parents, otherwise this law wouldn't be targeted at them. Mind you, corporal punishment is legal in Florida, unlike many states, but many parents aren't applying any while their kids are still young. We all know it's a bigger problem here, but is being mentioned in an undertone as not to appear racist as it is such a sensitive issue. Parents need to go back to discipline as what was given to me when I acted up. These parents want to be cool with their kids, rather than "beat them" & I use that term loosely, I really mean disciplining them with force. And growing up in the mean projects of N.Y, I know what it is to see many acting up & others refraining from getting into trouble. Back in the days, we couldn't be out past a certain hour anyway, why has that changed? The times? No, the discipling has. I agree with this law. Don't act like if you build a park or skating ring that the thugs will change their thug mentality & become skaters. Stop dreaming.

The city is a warzone! How about instead of criticizing the move, provide an alternative. I think the move makes sense but should be enforced uniformly. Parents need to be held accountable because crimes committed by kids can be just as bad as one committed by adults.

Ken Mills 05/27/2010 8:22:00 AM
I agree with Uncle Luke about government not interfering with people's rights but I guess it's better to do nothing and let parents allow their children to be out to any hour they chose. We chose not to allow young kids to drive a car until a certain age, for their protection. Is this a violation of their rights???
When parents don't do what's right to protect their own children then we either let the kids do what they want and possibly hurt themselves and others or the law steps in and protects them, as in the case of simply driving a car.
I also find it interesting that this article starts off by stating that ALL people who are part of the tea party are rascist.
Maybe Uncle Luke should look in the mirror before he calls people he doesn't even know a rascist. Glad to debate this with you, Uncle Luke. Just give me time to tie half my brain behind my back to make the discussion fair.

Starbucks, Jazz clubs, and teen discos, huh? And who is going to invest their capital in these business ventures? The only way for you to have this revitalization or birth similar to the Harlem Renaissance in NYC is to do it yourself (meaning the residents of Liberty City). Invest in yourself, buy properties, get small business loans, open your own coffee shops, jazz clubs, speak easy, etc. You have church congregations that you can use to create a movement. You have the talent. Just do it and quit bitching and moaning and asking Dunn or any other self interested politician to do it for you. The people start it and the politicians will follow or get voted off.

I need legal help
Ok so this is a follow up to my curfew rant. I need some legal help. I've tried my own research to no avail.
Could somebody point me to the law that says i have to hire off-duty police if i have an event for 50-60 juveniles.
This past Fri May 21 i had an event at Club 56. The curfew has really affected our business in a negative way. The parents and the kids are not respecting the curfew but we are. The kids are showing up to the party at 10pm. So they basically have 1 and a half hour to dance. What we have done is use different color bands to seperate the 15 & 16's from the 17 & 18's. 11:30 all juveniles have to leave the party. We reduced our price to anywhere from free to $3 so the kids don't feel cheated.
Before the curfew i was employing 2-4 officers every weekend for 4 years straight. I just can't afford it right now because the crowd is not coming anymore.
And now i'm being shut down with the curfew and minors being the front. But money is the real issue. How can i pay money i owe to the City or pass due amounts i owe Officers if i'm not allowed to operate and try to overcome this economic downturn we're experiencing. I don't mind rebuilding and working hard to pay off my debts and getting my business back on track through my own and my staff's sweat and hard work. I don't need grant money or a mom and pop loan. I believe we can do it. But it's hard to battle the City Of Miami.
Well Fri May 21 Major Cunningham sent a Sgt to shut the party down saying we needed to have a police officer. ( Miami Police case #100521-154115 ) Because of the curfew we can't afford to have 2 police there for the 3 hour minimum. I didn't see anything in the law that said we have to have police. For 50 kids which 15-20 of them were juveniles. To add to that the kids left my party after it was shut down and went to a competitor or 7th Ave & 78th St to a teen spot that was allowed to stay open past 1:00 AM with only 1 officer on duty.
On Saturday May 22nd i rented the hall for a private family function. The police showed up 5 deep and told me to shut down. I couldn't open. I told them it wasn't a teen function therefore i shouldn't have to shut down. The police went to enter the building and i told the officer i can't stop him but i didn't want him coming in without a warrant.
AT THAT POINT I WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED FIRST WITH OBSTRUCTION. WHEN I GOT TO PRE TRIAL THE CHARGE WAS CHANGED TO RESISTING ARREST WITH VIOLENCE
Most of the kids i use to service are going to Aventura, Sunset, Bayside, or Broward where the curfew is not enforced. THANKS COMMISSIONER DUNN! And there are still killings in D-5. I just went to a candlight vigil at Range Park last week.
This doesn't seem fair to me. I've tried to Google Search something on this but came up short. I don't think it's right for the police to dictate how we do business as long as what we are doing is in the confines of the law.
Also the curfew is being selectively applied. We've reached out to Commissioner Dunn and Major Cunningham and we are being ignored.
Commissioner Dunn 305-250-5390
Mayor Regalado 305-250-5300
NET OFFICE 305-795-2303
THIS IS NOT FAIR. SOME ONE HELP ME ON THIS PLEASE.
I hope after sending this letter i don't mysteriously get shot and killed, or caught with a kilo of cocaine or accused of some other crime. I'm not trying to break the law so i hope no strange accusations come about for sending this email. Just trying to keep a business afloat.

I did not know that Miami was a Country. I thought it was a city. LOL. The only COMMUNIST around is BARACK HUSSIEN OBAMA.LMAO AGAIN. Oh, thanks for the break luke. This Tea Partier appreciates it :-) I think the curfew is a great idea. It should be put into full force, with ankle monitors and close Police supervision. It would certainly help. Luv it!

Yeah... we get it Luke... black people are victims and the government is out to hold them down... happened with you right?
By the way... Miami's not a country genius...
-
Cary Butcher 05/26/2010 2:56:00 PM
We are not a Communist society, but we are a society of rules. If you think they should not be enforced, then change them. As for your comment "I'm going to give the Tea Party and other racists a break." Why don't you look in the mirror if you're looking for a racist. I do not associate myself with the Tea Party movement, but I don't call them racists for wanting our government to spend less.

Dunn can't fix anything in District 5 Luke without two key elements, just like a heroin junkie: 1. parents must realize that there is a problem and that their lives, and the lives of their children have become unmanageable, 2. that they must PERSONALLY seek conventional and non-conventional means to gain control of their lives and loved ones and 3.embody a personal willingness to change EVERYTHING.
My grandmother, who once lived in Overtown and worked on Miami Beach washing clothes for wealthy white people, took the bus and her identification card to work daily for meager wages. She managed to send my mother to college, where she graduated, on those meager wages. It was grandma's belief that an education for a Negro girl would lift the veil of ignorance to allow greater opportunities. This was in the late 1940's, so my friend, what happened between JIm Crow and today? That is where the story of who and where we are begins.
My father says hello, you are his former student from Miami Beach High.

what a joke!!! crack headed mom and jail bird dad are going to sit down and talk to the kid about staying home and studying and not going to the mall and stealing the place blind.
when you breed like rats and roaches with no reguard for your actions your going to continue to have the same trash, you are always crying for more hand outs looking for a free ride, look at the grease balls from cuba, they came here with nothing, got the same goverment hand outs you get, but look where they are today.
they own the city and all the crooked politicians in it.
it looks like your just to dammed lazy or stupid to take advantage
of the goverment hand outs. you would rather sleep all day and party all nite, then cry about being taken advantage off.
get your head out of your ass, until you get off your dead butt and

Sheesh! finally an adult that has some comprehension of what's it like for us "kids"(under 18) with nothin to do! but i got to admit we do go to aventura, but thats thee only place we can go to because miami is solely for "legal people" meaning those legal to drink and drive(not as a mixture!). its a paRTY city, and us teens are left outn because no 1 wants to deal with us when theres an event at club mansion, or some prestige club on south beach....... we sometime have to go all the way to broward, doral, even kendall for somthin to do, and i know dang well my momma aint takin me to another county, city make that 25 mile anywhere for me to be busy.

Lorenzo 05/26/2010 5:23:00 AM
I don't care what skin color a kid has regardless of race there is no reason a 17 year old should be out on the streets on a weeknight after 11 pm without a guardian. Parents need to start doing their job and stop being friends and worrying about traumatizing the child and start parenting. Curfew rules should be made in the home and keep our cops tracking down the rest of the criminal elements in our city however this can only happen if parents start doing their jobs and keep the kids in their homes where they are suppose to be. Its dangerous enough for an adult to be out on these streets risking a drive by why do parents think their child will be safe?

I don't think that CRIME has a time frame. Bible Man should try to seek a more direct solution to the problems at hand. I also hope that he can Keep Church & State Separate. You can't serve two masters {Matthew 6:24}.

Luke , you're right on the money on this one.
Governmental paternalism is NEVER a good idea. It's up to the parents to decide cerfews for their kids and not the city or the state. Believe me, they've got enough shit on their "to do " list to keep their crooked asses busy for the next decade. Try balancing the godamn budget for starters! We've got a friggin $100,000,000.00 deficit for Christ sake... This city is about to go full on bankrupt and they're worried about fining parents whose kid ain't tucked in by 10:00PM or 11:00PM It appears to me the the good Reverend Dunn is trying his best to please city of Miami commissioner Marc Sarnoff after a bumpy first two months.
You wanna help your costituents Reverand? Start making some noise to the other commissioners and get some of that precious money that goes into some of the other "lighter" communities. Squeeky wheel gets the oil homey.
On a nother note Luke, I'm a 46 year old white man and I was so ashamed at all the blatent racist remarks that were left on your last blog concerning Memorial weekend. No wonder the Black community distrusts "the man", with all that vitriol being spewed in their direction, how the hell can you blame them. To paint an entire community as a bunch of lawless animals for the actions of a clear minority is flat out stupid. Using that same logic can't the same be said about all "the punkass crackas" that use to invade Ft Lauderdale? Or how bout all those "fukin spics" that revel at the calle ocho events?
Doesn't feel good does it?
-
white person 05/26/2010 1:20:00 AM
You would not have a kid sitting in a stuffy apartment with his parents and 4 or 5 other kids if the parents (or should I say the mother) would use a condom or quit turning tricks for crack money. So let them go out and shoot each other, call it population adjustment.
-
Martha 05/26/2010 1:09:00 AM
I understand what Uncle Luke is tyring to say that government should not get involved in parenting. However, many parents are not being parents and we are slowly but surely loosing our youth. I agree that if the minor is picked up for a third time the household/parents needs to be investigated to see what is going on in the home. Unfortunately we are living in a day and age where parents have forgotten their roles and want to be out partying just as much as the kids. I feel someone has to care about this country's future and if that means the government needs to step in so be it.

Crackers dont give a fuk about little black kids. they jus wanna take cash from us blacks , talking about they go fine the parents if kids are out to late. these racist crackers always are trying to make a new law to hurt blacks but when it comes to helping blacks and changeing laws to help , they dont wanna do that and then they wanna say we make to many excuses. in the south we experience more race than other states. our laws downhere are fuked up for blacks, exspecially if u been in trouble before.
-
Joey 05/25/2010 10:33:00 PM
I understand the argument of the county ordinance being unconstitutional but the fact of the matter is that the youth of today is committing a majority of our crimes and parents are not taking responsibility for the action of their children and letting run wild as they please at what point does the law step in, after the fact when a crime has been committed or actually take some form of preemptive measure to try and avoid a shooting, burglary or robbery. And those all those actions to rebuild the community people petition for those to be done but all it takes is one gang or act of violence to send that community back into chaos and be forgotten like the rest. It is a sad and unfortunate cycle that our society can never seem to escape, only if you are wealthy. Middle class and lower class are suffering and will continue to do so.
