Picture a bacchanalia, and the image of well-healed art aficionados sipping cheap Chablis from plastic cups wont likely flow to mind. Thats about to change at ArtCenter/South Florida, where organizers of a new Art & Wine Series have called down Dionysus himself to bestow divine intoxication and assist with a membership drive. Presented by Armando Droulers, the series is from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on select Thursday evenings beginning tonight and running through January 18, 2007. The lectures are open to current or new ArtCenter members, and the tab runs $35 per person.
This series of lectures were designed as an alternative way to relax and enjoy drinking wine while learning about art history and its relationship to wine and spirits, Droulers explains. Its more a wine-drinking than a wine-tasting event.
Bacchanalia, this evenings lecture, focuses on the influence of the god of wine from ancient Greek times to Paris of the early 1900s. Well be discussing everything from Bacchus, to nymphs and satyrs, to Nijinsky, says Droulers. Call 305-674-8278, or visit www.artcentersf.org.
