Move over Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, there's a new white wine in town. We are talking about Verdejo, a white wine already among the most popular in Spain that is looking to make its mark in America. To celebrate, Spanish wine region D.O. Rueda has declared June 12 the first annual Verdejo Day. Special events are set to take place in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and, of course, Miami.
Miami's party takes place at Soho Beach House from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature an assortment of Verdejo wines from various producers, light bites, and music.
This celebration was tactically slated for June as this grape makes great wine for the hot summer months (or any month here in Miami). Verdejo is beloved for its dry, fresh taste with a hint of herbs and notes of tropical and stone fruits. This dynamic makes it great to pair with a variety of foods from salads to spicy dishes. Thankfully, it can be readily found around Florida for as little as $8 a bottle.
At the Tiki Bar at Soho Beach House this June 12, you'll find upwards of 12 Rueda wines to try and light fare like crostini burrata, bruschetta, lemon chicken skewers, prosciutto crudo with melon, and serrano ham and cheese croquettes.
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here. Or you can win a pair of tickets from us. Simply use our "comment" feature to share your favorite type of wine and food pairing. We'll pick one answer to win tickets to Verdejo Day. Make sure to register with a valid email address or put your Twitter handle in the comments so we can get in touch with you if you win! We'll announce the winner Monday, June 9.
