Art Week means countless guides, lists and must-sees for the weekend. The sheer amount of events and galleries can leave you overwhelmed and if you're not careful, on the couch confused and defeated. To help foodies make some decisions this weekend, we came up with yet another list that pairs what you really love, food, with an exhibit to compliment your meal getting you to the galleries by way of delicious eats. Whether you're seeking out the funky and weird of Wynwood or planning to lust over art worth more than most homes, our guide has a restaurant to suite your Art Week style. Fratelli Lyon Pop-Up + UNTITLED.
New kid on the block, UNTITLED., is the first fair directly located on the sands of Miami Beach in a tent designed to house 45 galleries open Wednesday - Saturday 11am to 7pm, Sunday 11am to 6pm. The exhibit, which is a pop-up of sorts, will be home to Ken Lyon's pop-up version of his much-missed design district restaurant, Fratelli Lyon. The café will have over 100-seats, with 30 of them set-up on an ocean-facing outdoor terrace, raised 10-feet above the beach. Menu includes a simple offering of antipasti, salads, sandwiches and the standard grilled-to-order proteins. UNTITLED. guests will place orders at the bar - and then café staff will deliver food to tables, in a relaxed, quick-serve style fitting of beachfront dining.
Florida Cookery + New Work Miami at MAM
New Work Miami will show off newly commissioned work at the Miami Art Museum by about a dozen Miami-based artists. The space cultivates a decidedly "Miami" aesthetic complete with an homage by the space's co-creator Emmett Moore to the iconic image of flamingos in the Miami Metrozoo bathroom before Hurricane Andrew. Pair that with The Florida Cookery's authentic hyper-regional recipes, like the Fluger Family Traps (Dade County) Spiny Lobster ($34) served with dry sherry pan bisque & green garlic zucchini, and you've got a recipe for an evening locals will love.
Cafeina Wynwood + Context
Amidst the hubbub of Wynwood lies Cafeina, a joint lounge, gallery, tapas-style restaurant and event space and is the perfect spot to stop, sit and eat after making your way through Art Miami's sister fair, CONTEXT Art Miami which will feature emerging and cutting edge artists. Come dressed to impress and put your high heels up while you relax and enjoy their popular Grilled Chicken & Goat Cheese Salad ($11).
Bloom + Moving The Still
Nothing says hipster nonsense like a GIF festival. And, this Friday, Paddle 8 and tumblr are hosting just that with a fest called Moving the Still to kick off Art Week's weekend events. The event is open to the public and goes great with a side of equally hip dining at Wynwood's 'It' spot for Asian and Latin American street food. Bloom will also be offering guests a special Art Basel Lunch menu from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, and a new Winter Happy Hour menu, which features a selection of $4 libations, wells, nibbles, craft beers, wine and sake from 5 to 8 p.m.
Broken Shaker + Design Miami/
Design Miami/ is Art Week's global forum for design made up of exhibitions of 20th and 21st century furniture, lighting, architecture, fashion and unique commissions from the world's top emerging and established designers and architects. After you peep the latest at the fair, take a look at one of Miami Beach's newest hostels, the Freehand. Opening softly for Art Week and VIPs, the upscale hostel is the first of it's kind in the US designed by Roman & Williams with tapas and a specialty cocktail bar Broken Shaker by Bar Lab. Come, sit poolside and discuss all the hot new designs hitting Miami.
Andiamo! + Counterparts
Tonight at the Buena Vista Building, legendary photographer, Phil Stern, recognized for his intimate photographs of Hollywood's luminaries including James Dean, Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra will collaborate with contemporary Hollywood photographer, Robert Zuckerman, celebrated for his incredible images from today's top films and television series including "Transformers," "Any Given Sunday," "Training Day," "The Shield" and "Rescue Me" for an entertaining piece entitled Counterparts. Pair this unlikely couple with a pie from nearby Andiamo! pizza joint for a laid back meeting of the minds.
BONDST + Art Basel Miami Beach
Once you're done from working your way through the 250+ galleries of Art Basel at Miami Beach Convention Center, take a break and head into the hidden oasis of BONDST located inside of the Townhouse Hotel just steps away from the fair. Select from a variety of light sushi and "Miami Specialty" dishes that take advantage of locally sourced ingredients like their Sesame Crusted Shrimp Sushi Roll made with Orange Curry and Dijon Mustard ($12).
Churchill's Pub + Cicada
If you think Art Week is confusing and chaotic for you voyeurs, think about how Miami's artists feel. With the art world in their backyard, the pressure to exhibit work is so immense that Autumn Casey, with the support of Primary Projects, has decided to release all that frustration with a symbolic scream performance called Cicada. Casey's performance will be spontaneously exhibited at well attended events throughout Art Week so be on the lookout. Pair Cicada with the fish and chips, stiff drinks and loud music of Churchill's Pub for an evening of complete auditory pleasure.
David's Café Pop-Up Cafecito + Los Carpinteros
David's Café is back for the week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. brewing their popular Cuban coffee for Miami's weary at The Standard Hotel. The event is hosted in conjunction with Jose Parla, a first generation Cuban-American who will be celebrating the launch of his book this week. To compliment your colada, head a few blocks south to see the Los Carpinteros exhibit titled Güiro. The piece doubles as a bar and its name comes from the Cuban percussion instrument created from a dried fruit. Of course, Güiro is also slang for party because this week food, art and libations combine across town for an only in Miami Art Week.
