Even as we're kvetching about this frigid weather (if you consider 65 degrees freezing, that is), thousands of young men and women are packing up their swimsuits to indulge in the annual rite known as spring break.
Sure, there are some college kids who head for Cancun and Europe to celebrate the end of another college term, but ever since Frankie and Annette frolicked on the sands of Fort Lauderdale, South Florida has been spring-break central.
Which is why we're so psyched about Sprung!, the new spring beer celebration coming to Coconut Grove's Peacock Park this Saturday, March 9. Brought to you by the same people who give you Grovetoberfest in the fall, Sprung! will feature samples of more than 150 beers -- many of them seasonal brews not available during the fall beer festival.
In addition to beer sampling, indulge your inner spring breaker with some awesome games such as giant Jenga, cornhole, mega Twister, beer pong, and (OMG) human bowling! Here's a photo of the awesomeness of human bowling:
In addition to the human bowling (and, really, could you ask for more?) there will be interactive beer demos, live music, and an Orange Pride bar where you can watch the UM vs. Clemson basketball game on four TV screens.
Tickets to Sprung! are available online. General-admission tickets cost $39 and allow unlimited beer sampling and entry from 4 to 7 p.m. VIP tickets cost $89 and allow early access to the fest at 2:30 p.m. In addition, VIPs will get a meet-and-greet with the brewers at 2:30 p.m. plus early tastings, access to the VIP lounge with specialty beers, complimentary appetizers, and the use of air-conditioned bathrooms.
Short Order has two pair of general-admission tickets to give away to our readers. Just "like" us on Facebook and post your most insane spring-break memory. We want to know about the time you wrecked Dad's car, vomited on your crush's shoes, and spent the weekend in a Mexican jail. The crazier the better.
We'll choose the two wildest stories, with each person winning a pair of tickets to Sprung! by 5 p.m. today, March 6. Tickets will be emailed to you.
We're looking forward to your stories -- and to making more of them this Saturday at Sprung!
