South Florida Beer Week: Tap Takeovers, Dinners in Miami

Beer drinkers rejoice, because South Florida Beer Week is upon us. This annual celebration of local brew is growing with our beer scene.

And, although many of the events are scattered throughout the northern part of the South Florida region (think Broward and Palm Beach Counties), this year's schedule has a good number of tap takeovers and dinners in Miami, making it even easier for us to take part in the festivities.

Weeklong Events

From January 18 - 25, Barley & Swine Gastropub will host a South Florida tap takeover. 18 local craft beers will be offered all week long.

Go on a Florida Road Trip at Lokal from January 18 - 25. Stop in and get your road trip card. Fill it up during the week and receive a free pint glass as a souvenir (beats a postcard). Beers featured include Cigar City White Oak Jai Alai; Tequesta Belgian Pumpkin; Engine 15 Jasmine Saison; Engine 15 Battle Axe, Swamphead Big Nose, and more.

Wynwood Brewing Company will celebrate SFBW with a special release every day at 6 p.m., starting Sunday, January 18. From Sunday - Saturday, enjoy 7venth Sun Brewing Intergalactic Pale Ale (5.5%). On Tuesday, January 21, try Father Francisco Belgian strong golden ale (8.6%); On Wednesday, January 22, Carmen Miranda (6.5%), Wynwood IPA treated with Mango and Passion Fruit, will be tapped; On Thursday, January 23, Cup of Jose (6.5%), Pop's Porter treated with Panther Coffee's East Coast premium espresso blend, will be on tap; on Friday, January 23, try Apple of My Eye-P-A (7.2%): Wynwood IPA treated with apples, cinnamon, and vanilla; and on Saturday, January 24 enjoy Hazelnut Jose (6.5%), Pop's Porter, Panther Coffee's East Coast premium espresso blend, and hazelnuts. Note: No growler fills on special releases.

Books & Books in Coral Gables is featuring local bottled beer on special all week long. A different beer is featured each day, including (Monday) Native Eleven Brown Ale; (Tuesday) Native Lager; (Wednesday) Holy Mackerel Panic Attack; (Thursday) Cigar City Florida Cracker; and (Friday) Monk IPA.

World of Beer Kendall is celebrating SFBW with special kegs and beers daily, starting Monday, January 20. On Monday, Due South Brewing will host a special keg tapping; on Tuesday, January 21, Wynwood Brewing Company will be featured; on Thursday, January 22, special kegs from Green Room and Swamphead will be tapped; and on Friday, January 23, WOB will tap beers from Cigar City, Native, Holy Mackerel and more.

Saturday, January 18

From 7 - 10 p.m., OTC will host a local tap takeover, featuring a dozen local beers, including some special drafts brought in just for this week.

Saturday, January 18 & Sunday, January 19

Miami Brew Bus takes you on a tour of three south Florida Breweries. The bus departs Lokal in Coconut Grove Saturday and Sunday at noon and visits Funky Buddha, Wynwood Brewing, and Titanic Brewery. $60 per person includes beer tastings at all stops. Visit miamibrewbus.com for details and tickets.

Monday, January 20

Titanic Brewery and Restaurant and Wynwood Brewing Company are hosting a four-course beer dinner at 7 p.m. The cost is $45 per person in advance and $50 the day of the event (RSVP by calling 305-668-1742). The menu includes shrimp, kale & chorizo stew paired with Wynwood La Rubia blonde ale; shaved carrot salad with yogurt and coriander paired with Wynwood El Dorado pale ale; Belgian ale braised brisket and parsley potatoes paired with Titanic's triple reserve ale; and warm chocolate stout bread pudding paired with Titanic's shipbuilder stout.

Tuesday, January 21

From 6 - 10 p.m., Alaska Coffee Roasting and Johnson and Wales University will host a pop-up dinner. There are two seatings for dinner. Call 786-332-4254 for details.

WOB Dadeland will tap a keg of Funky Buddha Maple Bacon porter, along with other offerings from the Oakland Park brewery. The keg gets tapped at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, January 22

From 7 - 10 p.m., Barracuda Raw Bar and Grill in Coconut Grove is hosting "Keep the Pint Night." Enjoy beers from your favorite local breweries -- and keep the pint!

Thursday, January 23

From 7 - 10 p.m., WOB Dadeland is hosting a Wywood Brewing tap takeover, featuring a rare mystery keg.

From 7 - 9 p.m., LoKal will tap a keg of Funky Buddha Maple Bacon Porter, along with other beers (and goodies) from Funky Buddha.
