Locavores and vegans will bask in the spotlight at Paradise Farms during a lecture and workshop with chef Cherie Soria October 12 and 13.
She's the same chef who founded Living Light Culinary Institute in California, which is one the highest rated organic raw vegan chef training schools.
There will be two days worth of events, with price tags as low as $20 and as high as $55.
You're probably thinking that this event isn't for you, mostly because you love a good steak. But meat eaters can learn a thing or two from a plant-eater. We know -- that's crazy talk, but hear us out after the jump.
At the start, owners of Paradise Farms welcome guests to tour the farm and see where their ingredients are grown. Keep in mind these are the same ingredients that many South Florida restaurants use regularly, especially if they have a season-based menu.
Soria will give a talk "Feast, Lose Weight, Gain Energy with Raw Foods" and a demo the evening of October 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The lecture will provide insight on the benefits of a raw vegan diet and why it's one of the top diets for improved health and weight loss. Guests will learn from Soria how to balance weight and avoid counting calories.
The cost for Friday evening's lecture is $20 and this includes samples of zucchini hummus. Note that there's no charge for those who are enrolled in Saturday's workshop.
At 10 a.m. on October 13, Soria will host a workshop in the gazebo kitchen: "Forget Cooking! Sensational Soups."
She'll be giving a rundown of the high nutritional value of raw vegan soups. She'll also share her introduction to flavor dynamics and how to balance contrasting flavors and textures. And while the menu for Saturday afternoon is just soups (creamy red bell pepper chipotle soup with cashew yogurt, lemony zucchini bisque, and garden blend soup) these are techniques that she insists are useful to sauces, dressings, and other foods be them cooked or raw.
The cost for the soup workshop is $55 ($100 for couples) and runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Register at paradisefarms.net.
