Miami's Best Eats and Eats This Week: Pisco Mules, Barbecue, and Iron Fork

Can you believe that Friday marks the beginning of August already? Before you know it, 100-degree days will be a thing of the past. But for now summer is still in session, which means hot deals like Lure's three-course, prix-fixe summer menu that lets you have your raw platter and a burger too for $50. And let's not forget The Dutch's annual summer BBQ soiree, wrapping up this Wednesday with nothing but some beer, bourbon, and 'cue.

Just make sure you leave some room because Thursday is New Times' very own Iron Fork. The official blastoff to Miami Spice Friday, Iron Fork is the best way to taste some of the 200 plus eateries participating in the two-month long restaurant promotion and narrow down the spots to hit. Besides, Eileen Andrade and Dena Marino are battling it out in an epic farm-to-table competition for the title of Iron Fork. Who will win? There's only one way to find out.

Summer Prix-Fixe at Lure 
Yes, Miami Spice starts on Friday. And yes, Lure Fishbar has one of the best five Miami Spice menu's on Miami Beach. But for just $15 more any night this week you can indulge in their three-course summer prix fixe menu. What's best, is that you can get a raw bar platter of dressed oysters, jumbo shrimp and clams, Josh Capon's Burger Bash award-winning burger with a red onion jam, and one of the city's best Key lime pie's for only $50.

Lesson in Pisco at Radio Bar
Radio Bar's monthly mixology classes continue on Tuesday with a lesson in pisco. So should you so happen to be a fan of the Peruvian spirit, tune in with bartender Teddy Collins and a surprise guest who'll be mixing up both a pisco sour and mule, and schooling you in the process. Who says drinking can't be educational? The gratis lesson is from 7 to 8 p.m. and attendees will get to walk away with a gift.

Last Chance to Summer Barbecue at the Dutch
Can you believe July is almost over? That also means the end is near for The Dutch's annual summer bourbon, been, and 'cue series. For the very last installment, Taquiza's master masa-maker and taco whiz Steve Santana and Xavier Torres of Koren barbecue-style joint Drunken Dragon are bringing their barbacoa skills to the W's backyard cove. There's no word on the menu just yet, but we presume there will be kimchee, tacos, and lots of pork (belly) and heat involved. Also: bourbon cocktails, beer (and beer pong), and Josh Gripper's rotating desserts. For $40 per person (bourbon and beer additional), it's one backyard party you don't want to miss. The party starts at 7 p.m.

Iron Fork 2015
There are so many reasons to go to Iron Fork, we don’t even know where to start. First of all, as the official Miami Spice kickoff, the culinary bonanza lets you get a taste of what many of the restaurants participating in the two-month restaurant promotion are plotting for the month. But that's only the beginning. The Iron Fork competition, which pits two of the city's top toques against each other in a battle of gastronomic wit has chefs Eileen Andrade of Finka Table & Tap and Dena Marino of MC Kitchen going head to head in the first-ever all female battle for the title. And speaking of firsts and battles, there's the inaugural Shuck It rapid-fire to see who's the fastest shucker in the Magic City. The contenders: Mignonette, J&G Grill, Lure Fishbar, the Oceanaire Seafood Room, and the soon to open Izzy's. If you still need another reason to buy tickets, it's cause GA is still only $50 through Wednesday. Otherwise, they're $65 at the door while supplies last of course.
