Burgie Awards
Burger Beast will present his sixth-annual Burgie Awards show this Saturday, January 31, at Milander Park (4700 Palm Ave., Hialeah), and you don't want to miss the action. From 5 to 10 p.m., watch as Miami's restaurants and food trucks are honored for items like best burger, best doughnut, and best sausage. There will also be live music and 25 food trucks to savor -- including the debut of the Velvet Creme truck. Admission is free.
Super Bowl
The big game is Sunday, which pretty much guarantees all of Miami will hunker down in front of a TV set come 6 p.m. If you're not flying out to the game, there are plenty of places to watch right here. From quiet restaurants serving team-inspired burgers to over-the-top block parties, here are the best places to watch the game in Miami.
Brunch in Paradise With Saffron Supper Club and Zak the Baker
There is no place in Miami-Dade more peaceful than Paradise Farms, which means there is no better place to indulge in a multicourse special brunch. This Sunday, February 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., join the Saffron Supper Club and Zak the Baker for brunch. You'll start with a welcome cocktail and a tour of the farm; then enjoy a meal that includes Israeli shakshuka, stuffed borekas, lebaneh and feta, green tahini, fresh-baked breads and pastries from Zak the Baker, and farm-fresh salads made with Paradise Farms produce and flowers. Craft Spirits & Beer
Building a home bar but have no idea how to stock it? Head to the Fillmore Miami Beach this weekend to sample some of the most innovative beers and spirits from indie distillers and brewers at Craft Spirits & Beer. Today's event is for the trade only, but tomorrow is for spirits enthusiasts, with more than 200 spirits and beers will be available to taste, paired with food from Miami's best restaurants. Craft's complimentary trade day (Friday, January 30) is open to industry-only professionals from noon to 3 p.m., followed by panel talks at 3 p.m. The consumer tasting gallery experience is open Saturday, January 31, from 4 to 7 p.m., and tickets cost $65 per person.
Get the Deflate Cake for Your Super Bowl Party
If you're having a Super Bowl party, you're gonna need Epicure Gourmet Market's "Deflate-gate" cake, which pokes fun at the whole "deflated balls" brouhaha.
The cake can be custom-ordered for the Super Bowl up to one day in advance. It features alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla fudge and is topped with a deflated football and team logos for the Patriots and Seahawks. The cake ($75) serves 20 people and can be ordered at any of Epicure's three locations, in South Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, and Coral Gables. Epicure also has an adorable helmet cake ($28.95) that serves ten and is available to grab and go all weekend.
