Lotus House Women's Shelter in Overtown (217 NW 15th Street) will celebrate Thanksgiving by serving over 500 holiday meals including turkey, all the fixin's, and dessert to their friends and neighbors in the city.

This will be the shelter's "Fifth Annual Thanksgiving Day Celebration."

The 500 meals of roast turkey and sides will be specially prepared by the excellent, classic soul food joint People's Barbeque of 360 NW Eighth Street.

President of the foundation that operates Lotus House, Constance Collins Margulies says "The Overtown neighborhood has been deeply supportive of Lotus House since the day we opened our doors to serve women and children in need. Giving back is our way of saying thank you."

The event is sponsored by philanthropist and art world luminary Martin Z. Margulies.

Keep Miami New Times Free... Since we started Miami New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Miami, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Miami with no paywalls.
