Lobster Mini Season Begins Tomorrow in Florida: Where to Go

If you 're the fishing type and love seafood, one of the advantages of living in South Florida is lobster season. Florida has two lobster seasons, including a mini season that opens every last consecutive Wednesday and Thursday of July.

And if you're looking to bag your share this mini season, you better get on it. There are only a handful of commercial charter diving boats operating in the Miami area for the season.

RJ Diving Ventures Inc. in Miami Beach is completely full, as is Aquatic Explorers in Key Biscayne, which has been booked since February. You might get lucky, though: Two spots could be available for an afternoon dive tomorrow.

You might also want to try Diver's Paradise, also in Key Biscayne. It has two boats with plenty of space going out tomorrow and Thursday at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. A trip costs $65 with no scuba gear included and $110 for the trip plus gear.

But if all else fails, check the Dinner Key Marina in Coconut Grove. There, you might be able to find a boat captain who'll take you out and knows where the crustaceans sleep.
