Ladies -- and gents -- will love to lunch in the sunny room that now houses Liberty Caffe at the Coral Gables Country Club. Located in what once was a members-only space, the airy cafe surrounded by large arched windows is a great spot for a casual lunch in an elegant setting.
Liberty Caffe opened in May as part of the club's renovation by Toronto-based Liberty Entertainment Group. The menu has an Italian bent featuring paninis, pizza bread (slices of pizza), Italian wraps, and homemade gelato at prices mostly under $10.
A foccacia chicken club ($7.50) combines a tasty, moist piece of chicken topped with provolone, pancetta, lettuce and tomato in between fluffy foccacia. A pasta of the day - which on one visit was fetuccine with a cream sauce and spinach-filled mushrooms - provides a heartier option for those seeking more than soup and salad.
During breakfast, which is served everyday between 8 and 11 a.m., you can choose from omelets with your choice of fillings, bagels and pastries. But I'm more tempted to go back for Belgian waffles or gelato one of these sunny afternoons.
Liberty Caffe is open seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
