January Foodie Holidays: From National Peach Melba to Hot Pastrami Sandwich Day

Well, 2012 is finally here, and while some folks are out preparing for the apocalypse, others are taking advantage of their last days on Earth by partying every day.

Foodies can party it up each day of the year, mostly thanks to industry promotion and consumerism. It's not hard to make a national holiday. All it takes is petition, a sponsor, a few thousand dollars and an act of Congress.

These holidays don't have the force of law like federal holidays, so you''ll have to go to work. And because January is already underway, we missed a couple, such as Bloody Mary Day and Apple Gifting Day (January 1) and Cream Puff Day (January 2). Yesterday was Chocolate-Filled Cherry Day.

But January also happens to be National Candy, Egg, Tea, Meat, Oatmeal, Soup, and Wheat Bread Month.

Then there's National Pizza Week -- the second week of January -- and National Meat Week and National Irish Coffee Week -- both the fourth week of January.

For the rest of the month, here is a list to help you plan your daily menu:
