Iron Fork Announces Shuck It Competition

New Times' Iron Fork, the official Miami Spice kickoff event presented by the Miami Downtown Development Authority, has just announced a competition that will have Miami screaming, "Shuck it, baby, shuck it!

On Thursday, July 30, at the Hyatt Regency Miami/James L. Knight Center, representatives from five Miami seafood meccas will compete in Iron Fork's first-ever Shuck It competition. Each restaurant will send its fastest oyster shucker onstage for a rapid-fire competition to determine who can shuck the most oysters in a set amount of time. Participating restaurants include Mignonette, J&G Grill, Lure Fishbar, the Oceanaire Seafood Room, and the much-anticipated Izzy's.

The Shuck It competition is a prelude to the Fork Off, a supreme battle for culinary excellence waged onstage between two of South Florida's most formidable chefs —  Eileen Andrade of Finka Table & Tap and MC Kitchen's Dena Marino.

This year, we've upped our game, inviting these two powerhouses to a farm-to-table themed cook-off in which each chef must use her skills, training, and finesse to impress judges Jamie DeRosa (Tongue & Cheek and Izzy's) and Danny Serfer (Blue Collar and Mignonette) — both past Iron Fork participants. Your host for the action will be Miami's own Allen Susser.

Of course, all of this fierce competition leaves one hungry, which is why Miami's finest restaurants will be on hand to serve bites of their best offerings. And because this is the official kickoff to the 2015 Miami Spice, you'll be able to preview many restaurants participating in Spice. Restaurants at Iron Fork will include favorites like Finka Table & Tap, Morton's the Steakhouse, the Café at Books & Books, Miami Smokers, Cibo Wine Bar, J&G Grill, and Tantalize Miami.

Advance-purchase, general-admission tickets are available through June 30 and cost $45. The price climbs to $50 July 1 through July 29 and increases to $65 at the door (while supplies last). GA tickets allow entry to Iron Fork from 7 to 10 p.m. and include unlimited samplings of food from dozens of Miami's finest establishments.

Advance-purchase VIP tickets cost $75 through June 30; regular-priced VIP tickets are $85 July 1 through July 29; and VIP tickets at the door cost $100 (while supplies last).
