Time flies when you're having fun...or taking over the world one pork bun at a time.

Sakaya Kitchen turns 1 this Friday. At this time last year, Richard Hales and his wife, Jenny, opened their doors to a foodie community starved for something new and different. Nervous and angst-plagued all day long, they finally opened the doors at 6:30 the night of December 17 and said, "F*ck it."

The rest is history...

In memory of check numero 1, Sakaya Kitchen and crew will be dishing out free Korean Fried Chicken Wings all day long. If you're in the hood between 7 and 10 p.m., stop by for more festivities and order some pork buns, get down with some sake and jam to the Jay Blues Band live.

Congrats to Richard and Jenny! We certainly look forward to Sakaya Kitchen's long-lived, pork-filled existence.

Keep Miami New Times Free... Since we started Miami New Times, it has been defined as the free, independent voice of Miami, and we would like to keep it that way. Offering our readers free access to incisive coverage of local news, food and culture. Producing stories on everything from political scandals to the hottest new bands, with gutsy reporting, stylish writing, and staffers who've won everything from the Society of Professional Journalists' Sigma Delta Chi feature-writing award to the Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. But with local journalism's existence under siege and advertising revenue setbacks having a larger impact, it is important now more than ever for us to rally support behind funding our local journalism. You can help by participating in our "I Support" membership program, allowing us to keep covering Miami with no paywalls.
