Last night the Four Seasons Hotel on Brickell hosted its first ever virtual tasting. Twenty something twasters (yes, we just made that up) showed up to partake in the $15 tasting. They tweeted about the wines with fellow #FSwine tweeters in nine Four Seasons hotels nationwide.

The constant online chatter was displayed on a screen prominently set up in the far end of the bar and while the three wines were poured a plate of paired bites was placed in front of us. As we settled into our table to enjoy the Loosen Bros. Dr. L Riesling we heard , "Is anyone tweeting? Let's get some comments up there!" and with that, the socializing stopped as the twasters buried their faces in their phones. The Paraiso Syrah brought some oohhs and aahhhs from fellow twasters, but the true enthusiasm came when a tweeter's comment came through on the screen. "Look, my tweet is up!"...alas, we have to admit that we were also guilty of said behavior...

The concept behind the event is interesting, and the wine and food were both excellent. However, we felt far from social, typing our comments away into cyberspace. Walking out realized it was the first happy hour we'd been to where we hadn't met any strangers.
