Got any plans for the evening of Friday, September 27? Let's hope not. Cluck Miami will kick off its first annual chicken-and-champagne event that night.
Along with a slew of chefs from greater Miami, the proceeds from Cluck will benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida, which works to create and support programs that directly improve the health of children.
We know. Fried chicken and champagne? That's what you call healthful? Of course not. Even if it's topped with a leaf of young kale. But the point is to be there to support the cause and help out the kiddies, who one day will nosh on chicken and champagne for the greater good when they're adults.
This is the first event centered around chicken as the protein -- because pig has been in for a while. Events such as Cochon 555 (though national) run a similar show that benefits heritage-breed hogs. So as the official pioneer in poultry, Cluck, and the chefs backing it, are looking to treat you right with a delicate flute of champagne and then bring you right back down to earth with special takes on fried chicken.
Participating chefs and their respective restaurants will compete in a contest where guests will vote to crown King Cluck (or queen, as the case may be).
Chef Bradley Kilgore, formerly of Route 9 and Exit 1, will be exhibiting his unique take on the classic fried chicken on behalf of his new post at J&G Grill at the St. Regis. Along with him, Adrianne Calvo from Chef Adrianne's Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar, Jacob Anaya (formerly of the Mandarin Oriental) with OTC Brickell, Jean Paul Desmaison from Jean Paul's House Restaurant and Market Place, Richard Hales, the brains behind Sakaya Kitchen (and his new creation Blackbrick which it slated to debut this fall), and Giorgio Rapicavoli of Coral Gables' Eating House.
In addition to the unlimited tastings from each restaurant participant, guests can loosen up with a hour-long welcome champagne reception sponsored by Veuve Clicquot. The endless bubbles will run from 7 to 8 pm. Additionally, complimentary cocktails by Bombay Sapphire and Chambord Flavored Vodka will be readily available to everyone's liking.
Now that we've got all the details out of the way, Cluck Miami agreed to give our trusty New Times readers a 25 percent discount. Regular admission runs at $85 per ticket online ($100 at the door, unless they sell out online), but with the promo code MNT25, tickets cost just $63.75. Admission includes live entertainment, a take-home champagne flute, open Veuve Clicquot bar from 7 to 8, unlimited cocktails and restaurant tastings, and voting tokens to decide who's dish knocked it out of the ball park.
