Brunch at 660 at the Angler's Gets Revamped: Chocolate-Covered Bacon and Nutella French Toast

Brunch is to Sunday what booze is to happy hour. No Sunday is complete without it, especially when the brunch is overflowing with booze. At 660 at the Angler's, the intimate restaurant is more like an oasis.

The Angler's recently joined the Kimpton Hotels family, so the company has revamped the concept at 660, as well as the menu. Short Order was invited to sample the new offerings.

A boutique hotel, the Angler's is about to triple in size with the recent takeover of the property next door. The project should be completed soon, at which point 660 will have a new identity. To figure things out along the way, they've gone from Latin fusion to more modern and eclectic offerings.

Keep the bubbly flowing for an hour and a half with either bloody marys or mimosas for $25 a person. You can also have just three (in case unlimited is too intimidating) for $14.

You'll want to start out with a small plate. Choose from short-rib empanadas, pandebono (one of the few dishes that was left over from the old menu), big daddy's biscuits and sausage gravy, granny's baked mac 'n' cheese, or chocolate-covered bacon. Yes, chocolate-covered bacon. We obviously opted for it, and for just $5, it's a must-have. There's really no other way to describe it than chocolate-covered bacon.

If you want to cross over to the lighter side, 660 offers a few selections -- half a Florida grapefruit, house-made granola, steel-cut oats, and mixed romaine salad.

This is brunch, though, so we go for hearty. Try the short-rib Benedict ($15). Eight-hour-braised short rib atop an English muffin with creamy spinach Hollandaise that's served alongside house potatoes and mixed greens makes for an excellent brunch dish.

Half a dozen Blue Point oysters ($14) with lemon, Tabasco, and horseradish keep it simple. A shot of bloody mary with a chili-salt rim will get you heated and tipsy.

Fried chicken tacos ($8) are topped with cilantro vinaigrette and fire-roasted corn. Add Tabasco for a complete bite that packs crunchy, cool, tart, and spicy all in one.

Nutella French toast ($12) makes a sweetly decadent ending. The bread is submerged in Nutella cream cheese and walnut maple glaze. Kudos if you can finish it all.
