56. Joey Pizza at Joey's
At first glance, the Joey pizza ($15) appears an overdose of toppings -- wisps of fresh spinach, slices of spicy salami, fat chunks of Italian tuna, and a scattering of capers peeking beneath a thin, bubbly layer of aged Gorgonzola cheese topped with a sprinkle of parsley and red pepper flakes. But the elements are surprisingly cohesive -- an indulgent heap of spicy, salty, and sharp flavors. And though a mediocre crust could collapse into sogginess beneath so much weight, Joey's is a super-thin, straight-out-the-brick oven version that crackles with each bite. The result is a comforting tangle of earth, sea, and land ingredients that somehow makes perfect sense.
