Shuckers has a lot of selling points. It's an outdoor bar on Biscayne Bay. There are TVs set to whatever sport is on the air. The fish is fresh and the wings are great. But the fries, crispy on the outside, moist after you take a bite, are the dark horse at this joint.
These thick waffle fries are so flavorful that it's almost a waste to
put ketchup on them. They come out fresh so they're always warm and
crunchy. It's a mystery how they turn out so good, because there is
never any visible salt or seasoning added after being cooked. They hit your tongue with a burst of happiness, never oily but with all of the flavor of something deep fried. The large, flat shape of these potatoes makes them extra enjoyable -- you can take three or four bites out of every fry, so it feels like you're eating more than you actually have in front of you. This part may be all psychological, but who cares?
It doesn't really matter how they make them though. What's important is
that they come with almost every meal here, or you can order a side of
them ($2.95). Be careful though -- the portions might look sizeable, but
after your first fry you'll be shielding them from other quick fingers.
