South Beach is going to get a little boozier when Total Wine & More opens tomorrow, October 15, at the Fifth & Alton shopping center (1139 Fifth St., Miami Beach).

The Miami Beach mega-store offers 14,000 to 15,000 spirits and wines (including Schnebly's tropical fruit wines) in a 19,105-square-foot space. The store will also feature a good selection of local beers including Miami Brewing, Wynwood Brewing, Concrete Beach, Funky Buddha, Due South, and Barrel of Monks. Tampa-based Cigar City Brewing's beers will also be sold.

In addition, the South Beach location will be the first South Florida Total Wine with a brewery district where you can fill 32-ounce and 64-ounce growlers with fresh, local beer.

For those who want to channel the complete good life, Total Wine will have a well-stocked cigar humidor.

If the thought of finding the right bottle of wine to take to a dinner party among all those bottles confounds you, just ask one of the knowledgeable Total employees for a recommendation. Each of the 50 employees (including about 20 full-timers) had to complete 150 hours of classroom training before stepping out onto the sales floor. In addition, selected staff members are flown to Napa and Sonoma to further their wine education by studying the soil, vines, barrels, and the process of wine-making in depth.

The store also offers a beer training program, where employees can become Cicerone-certified beer servers.

Total Wine also features a state-of-the-art training room that will host seminars and virtual tastings, where winemakers can talk about their wines without leaving the vineyard, as South Beach locals sip the precious fruits of their labors. When not in use, the training room can be used by local organizations free of charge by reserving at [email protected].

To celebrate the opening of the store, Total Wine is throwing a grand-opening extravaganza celebration all weekend with over 20 wine, spirits, and beer tastings by brands like Caymus, Belvedere, Hennessy, Alpine Brewing, Green Flash Brewing, and more. The store opens at 9 a.m. and the first 200 people to walk through the door will receive a gift bag with a $10, $25, $50, or $100 Total Wine & More gift card inside. Other events and tastings start at 4 p.m.

In addition, Total Wine & More will donate a portion of its grand opening sales from October 15 through 18 to help support New World Symphony.
