We suppose you could grab the usual stale lunch from the sandwich lady that comes around each day, or you could head out today for a little mid-afternoon meal that involves food trucks, drag queens, and the world's largest air guitar jam session. So which is it, pookie?
Today, September 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. head over to the Arsht Center for their kick-off to the Broadway in Miami season celebration. The theme? Big hair and rock 'n' roll!
You'll be able to purchase choice seats for more than 30 different shows
coming to Miami this fall and winter, including Rock of Ages, a classic
love story set to '80s hair band music. In honor of Rock of Ages' Miami
premiere, visual artist Ronny Leinchen will paint a mural inspired by
the show live at the event.
Miami's favorite drag queen, Elaine
Lancaster (wearing a really big wig in keeping with the big hair theme) will make a special appearance to announce the season kick-off
and at 12:45, help set the new world's record for the largest air
guitar jam. According to Guinness World Records,
the current record was set on September 28, 2011, when 2,377
participants in Highland, California played Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train
on the invisible instrument.
After you've worked up an appetite
with all that rocking out, grab a bite at one of the food trucks out to
serve you including Boba Station, Bocaditos, Daddy's Grill, Dolce
Gourmet Cupcakes, HipPops, Ms. Cheezious, Mushaboom, The Rolling Stove,
and Sugar Yummy Mama.
Discounted $3 parking is available at the center's Lot C from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (located on 12th Street and Biscayne Boulevard). Here's the cast of Rock of Ages smashing the 2009 air guitar world's record:
