Miami's first artisanal doughnut shop, which pops up every weekend inside a small courtyard in Wynwood (29 NW 24th St.), is adding a second location for the sweet-filled holiday.

On Saturday, February 13, from 8 a.m. to sell out, doughnuts will be sold in the hotel's main lobby. There will be a variety of flavors, including traditional glazed buttermilk, maple bacon, and guava and cheese ($2 to $3.25). A special heart-shaped Valentine’s Day doughnut ($5) will debut too, made with chocolate and strawberries.

"It's featuring the two things you think about when you think of Valentine's Day," Andy Rodriguez says, cofounder of the Salty Donut. "But that's as much as I can say."

Though it's pricier compared to the doughnut shop's regular offerings, Rodriguez says the special holiday creation is meant to be used as a gift. That is if you have the self-control to not eat it yourself first.

"We've definitely pushed the envelope for this doughnut," he says. "You'll be able to gift it too because we've really gone all out with how we've made it. And though we're charging more, we're probably making less from it. We just really wanted to make it pretty and go as all out as we could."

The South Beach pop-up will only have a limited quantity of doughnuts, with about 25 Valentine's Day-themed ones. The Wynwood location will still be open all weekend, from Friday through Sunday 11 a.m. to sold out.

"It's sort of a first come first serve basis at this pop-up right now," he says. "It's the first time we're doing something like this, so we just want to see how it goes. If it goes well, we'll do it again in a few weeks. It's basically like a pilot pop-up."

According to Rodriguez, the pop-up is the first of many for the Hyatt Centric hotel. "The hotel reached out to us about this," he says. "The whole Centric hotel brand is trying to bring local businesses and artisans inside their hotels across the country to promote cool spots around town. It's like you're in a hotel, but you're also in the middle of something really authentic. And you don't have to leave your hotel to experience it."

The Salty Donut is the Hyatt Centric South Beach's first pop-up of its kind. Different local food businesses are expected to debut in the next few weeks.

Rodriguez says more Salty Donut off-site pop-ups are probably in the doughnut shop's future, though no concrete plans have been made.
