"When thinking about New Year's, most people look forward to the future,"
Debuting Monday, December 31, the Fortune Cookie doughnut ($5.50) consists of the shop's signature 24-hour brioche dough with one half dipped in Perrier-Jouët champagne-infused glaze and the other half in Valrhona white chocolate with crushed homemade fortune cookies. Inside the doughnut, which comes in a custom Salty Donut Chinese takeout box, look for a homemade fortune cookie made with edible wafer paper, allowing customers to eat their fortune after they've read it.
"Being the kind of company that we are, we asked ourselves how we could take the doughnut to the next level," she says, "which is where we came up with the edible paper inside the fortune cookie with natural dye for the text. All of the fortunes were created by our employees, and the thought was that starting a new year is just as exciting as opening a fortune cookie."
Though the shop is normally closed on Mondays, it will make an exception on December 31. However, it will be closed Tuesday, January 1. There are no limits on the number of fortune cookie doughnuts a customer can order.
