The Cheese Steak Gourmet, Hold the Whiz at Hard Rock Tonight

In Philadelphia, cheesesteaks are serious business. People have their favorite cheesesteak palaces, most of which are open 24 hours. An hourlong wait is not uncommon at rival cheesesteak emporiums Pat's and Geno's -- both taking up entire city blocks across the street from each other. Your options are simple: a steak with provolone or Cheez Whiz, with or without onions.

The Cheese Steak Gourmet, debuting at tonight's Hard Rock food truck roundup, is bringing the classic Philly to Miami, along with a host of other creative and upscale options. Managing partner and executive chef Timothy Cho uses high-quality ingredients prepared fresh daily to create new and interesting takes on the cheesesteak.

Cho pays homage to his Korean roots with his Cho Go Ssamwich: Korean marinated rib eye, Havarti cheese, shredded carrot, green leaf lettuce, and spring onion.

Other nontraditional creations include the Hot Stomach (marinated spicy pork belly, mozzerella cheese, green leaf lettuce, and spring onion); the Brapplesteak (thinly-sliced rib eye, Brie, Granny Smith apples, apple walnut chutney, spring onion, and clover honey), and the Bac & Bleu (rib eye, bleu cheese, roast peppers, green leaf lettuce, and aioli).

All steaks, including custom-built numbers, are priced at an introductory $7 for this weekend.

Traditionalists can sink their teeth into the Klassic, a rib eye with provolone and

onions. As for the classic Philly Cheez Whiz? Cho decided against any Whiz on the truck because he wants to stay away from processed foods. So fans of the Philly will just have to try a new, fresher approach to an old favorite.

Food Trucks and a movie at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino tonight. Free parking, food trucks, and Raiders of the Lost Ark playing on a big screen under the stars. Trucks serving from 5:30 to 10 p.m. include Big Kahuna, Cheese Steak Gourmet, Clarabelle's Cupcakes, Daddy's Grill, Dim Ssäm à Gogo, Dolci Pecatti Gelato, the Fish Box, the Flying Saucer, Grillmaster Cafe, Giuseppe's Italian Sausage, Jefe's Original Fish Taco, Latin Burger, Latin House Grill, Mangia Mia, the MexZican Gourmet, Mr. Good Stuff, Nacho Mama's, Papa's Tapas, the Red Koi, El Rey de las Fritas, the Rolling Stove, Slow Food Truck, Sugar Rush, and Sugar Yummy Mama.
